James Chendol - Kuala Lumpur

James Chendol - Kuala Lumpur

James Chendol
Chendol is a traditional dessert popular in Singapore and Malaysia.  Commonly served with shaved ice, chendol is the green wormy-like jelly made from rice flour and green food coloring.  However, the chendol at James Chendol is made from pandan leaves from where it gets its green colour.

There are a few varieties of chendol but the one served at James Chendol in Old Klang Road comes with red beans as well as pulut or glutinous rice, and not forgetting the palm sugar or gula melaka.

Pretty much an eco-friendly place, James Chendol is located off Old Klang Road.  Comprising a little shack with no walls so as to allow natural air to flow through.

Recently with the weather at a high of 36 degrees Celcius, James Chendol has installed a water sprinkler on the roof top and this has helped tremendously to cool the area and dissipate the heat.

What is interesting is that all the chendol ingredients are made on-site and one coconut bowl costs RM3 or USD0.95.

We enjoyed the chendol where you get the sweetness from the gula melaka palm sugar and a slightly salty taste from the coconut milk.  The glutinous rice was interesting as we had not had chendol served with glutinous rice before and realised that it was a good combination

Special Chendol

James Chendol originates from Sitiawan and now has 3 branches in various parts of Kuala Lumpur.  In fact, if you are fortunate, you will see James himself all the way from Sitiawan in one of the branches doing the training and QC.

The curry chicken and toasts

Love the chicken curry and toast, but upon our latest visit discovered that this item has been discontinued and there is a new dish known as rojak or you can try the mee rojak version where noodles are added.  We had the mee rojak at RM4 (USD1.25) and enjoyed it a lot as well.  Something unusual and an excellent side dish to go along with the chendol.  Definitely a must-try if you can take spicy food.

The new dish - mee rojak

James Chendol is located next to Lee Chong Wei's Sports Arena.  Look out for the BHP petrol station as it is just before it along Old Klang Road.

Look for the BHP as James Chendol is at the small lane just next to it
