Christmas comes but once a year. This year, our family comprising 23 family members decided to go on board the holiday cruise ship SuperStar Virgo for a Christmas cruise. As a number of us like to try our luck in the casino, Christmas seemed to be the ideal time for a holiday on board the Star Cruise Line SuperStar Virgo as gamblers know it as a casino ship. You can even play mahjong and enjoy a mahjong game in the mahjong room at the activity centre.
Star Cruise Line SuperStar VirgoDeparture time for SuperStar Virgo was scheduled for 2100 hrs. As usual, this holiday cruise ship was berthed at Harbourfront Singapore. We left home at 1700 hrs and took half an hour to reach Harbourfront as it was raining cats and dogs. Fortunately, once we reached Harbourfront, we were not disturbed by the rain as it was sheltered all the way to the Star Cruise ship.
We went to the food court on Level 3 to allow mother to catch a bite before boarding the holiday cruise ship. This was because Mother had a mahjong game, an ancient Chinese game involving 4 players, scheduled for 1900 hrs. To play mahjong, you need a mahjong set which comprise 144 tiles with picture or script on them which may be classified into 4 suits, the bamboo, circle, character and wind.

Today being a Public Holiday, the SuperStar Virgo was full and 2200 passengers were expected on board. As usual, we had one of the Star Cruise staff assist in pushing Mother in her wheelchair to check in. We were told there were a total of 27 wheelchair passengers on board this Christmas cruise. This holiday cruise ship is easily accessible for those in wheelchairs.
TIPS FOR TRAVEL
If you are accompanying a wheelchair bound person on board the Star Cruise Line SuperStar Virgo, you can proceed to Deck 7 at the Reception Counter and have both your cabin key cards programmed for access to the handicapped toilets. These handicapped toilets would be much more spacious and easier for the wheelchair passenger if they require assistance.

We started to check in at 1800 hrs and were in our cabin 11000 by 1830 hrs. As this Christmas cruise was full, we did not manage to have cabins all on the same deck. However since Mother was with us, our cabin became the meeting point for the whole group.

Being the holiday season, the ship had some simple Christmas décor and 'Welcome Christmas Serenade' by the SuperStar Virgo Lounge Band at the Grand Piazza on Deck 7.

We took our time to enjoy the dinner and when we had finished dinner, we went back to the mahjong room where Mother and the group were still playing. As Mother was tired, another group member took over her place and we brought her back to the cabin and got her ready for bed.

We had originally wanted to watch Little Mermaid, an hour-long musical based on the much loved tale by Hans Christian Andersen. However, by the time we settled Mother into bed, the show had already started and so we missed it.
The Little MermaidLater, we went to the Casino to try our luck. As we do not know how to gamble and play the various games such as Baccarat, Casino War, etc… we only stationed ourselves at the jackpot area. The casino was quite packed as is normally the case on the first night. As it was Christmas, we managed to receive a mini Christmas jackpot present whilst playing the jackpot.
It was almost 0100 hrs when we called it at day. This is the first time we spent Christmas on board a holiday cruise ship. The SuperStar Virgo is a great ship to be on as compared to the other Star Cruise Line ships as the casino is larger and the cabin bathrooms are also more spacious. Many gamblers love this casino ship which they call home on most weekends. We chose a Christmas cruise vacation as Mother loves to travel and being on the Star Cruise, wheelchair is no hassle at all. Best of all, on this trip, some of Mother’s mahjong game gang was also on board, which is why they arranged to play mahjong on this Christmas day.
