How fast time flies when you are enjoying yourself on the holiday cruise ship SuperStar Virgo cruise. Today is already our third day on board this Malaysia cruise where we had a stopover in Port Klang yesterday. It was a wonderful day when we had our fill of Malaysia shopping in Aeon Bukit Tinggi and tasted the wonderful food of Malaysia yesterday.

As our cabin was just next to Charlie's Kids Club, we took a walk in it to see what activities they had.

As most of the other group members wanted to go to the casino since SuperStar Virgo is also popularly known as a casino cruise ship, we decided to head to The Pavilion, a Chinese restaurant, for breakfast.

It was a change for us having Chinese food as we would normally be in Bella Vista having the Western/Asian breakfast.

The breakfast food here in The Pavilion Room was quite appetizing with a good variety but service was a little slow. We waited twenty-five minutes for our second order.

TIPS FOR TRAVEL on board SuperStar Virgo-

We felt that it might have been better to have Chinese breakfast in Bella Vista since you could also help yourself to the buffet selection of croissants, bread, fruits, salads and cereal. In Pavilion, you are limited to the set menu and no other types of breakfast food of other varieties as what you can get over in Bella Vista.

After breakfast, we went to apply for the Star VIP88 membership card as well as the WorldCard Cruiser.

Lunch today was served starting from 1130 hrs as the holiday cruise ship was expected to dock in Singapore at 1400 hrs. We had Western lunch in Bella Vista. As usual, we enjoyed the bread.

The roasted chicken had the breast meat which was tough. Other than that, the meal was a pleasant and satisfying meal.

Immediately after lunch, those of us who were not accompanying Mother in the wheelchair went to The Pavilion Room to await disembarkation. Those who were accompanying Mother stayed in the cabin till a crew member came to assist Mother with the wheelchair. Somehow, this time round, it seemed that SuperStar Virgo had changed its policy and all wheelchair passengers were wheeled out after all the other passengers had disembarked.

This was a very enjoyable short travel cruise on the holiday cruise ship with stopover travel in Port Klang for great Malaysia shopping and food. At the same time, the gamblers in the group managed to spend some time in the casino as well.

Day 2 12^th Nov

This morning, the holiday cruise ship SuperStar Virgo made a short stopover in Malacca waters for embarking and disembarking passengers before making its way to Port Klang, Malaysia.

Meanwhile, we had our breakfast in Bella Vista Restaurant on Deck 6. Depending if you are having breakfast food of Chinese or Western origin, you would be seated accordingly. Even if you choose the Western breakfast, you would still have a choice of Western or Asian cuisine. This is one of the reasons why Bella Vista Restaurant is one of our favorite restaurants on board this travel cruise.

The choice for Western breakfast food includes a variety of eggs, with your choice of hash potatoes, pork bacon, turkey ham, etc… For Asian, today’s choice was fried noodles which was just mildly spicy.

Help yourselves to the range of buffet breakfast foods of various varieties at the buffet counter. The range includes croissants, muffins, Danish pastry, salads, cereals, ham and cheese as well as fruits.

After breakfast, the gamblers went to ‘work’ in the casino and the rest of us went on our rounds exploring the ship and the various activities on board.

We proceeded to The Promenade on Deck 7 to check out the Dancercise. It was a thirty minutes session of Line Dance and good for those who would like to try out some line dancing or burn off some fat.

Following this was a thirty minutes session of WuShu where a young Tai Chi master gave basic Tai Chi instruction. So it was more a WuShu Taichi exercise with great tai chi postures.

After the interesting session of Tai Chi instruction, we proceeded to Bellini indoors for a napkin folding demonstration. It was not too difficult folding napkins if you were to just follow the table napkin folding instructions and watch the demonstration.

Next, we made our way to Bella Vista Restaurant at 1145 hrs and already there was a queue there. We had been advised to go early as there were limited large table at the Chinese section and we needed a table for ten persons. Fortunately we heeded their advice and managed to get a large table for our group.

After lunch, we had a birthday celebration – mine… J The Bella Vista crew came out singing Happy Birthday and bringing along a birthday Tiramisu cake. Surprise as it was 3 days early!

When lunch was over, we returned back to the cabin and watched a sea plane doing its rounds whilst the cruise ship made its way into the harbour of Port Klang Malaysia for the stopover travel.

Some of the shore excursions in Port Klang included:-

• Sightseeing and City Tour @ S$49 (USD35.4) per adult – Here you would be able to drive past rubber and palm oil plantations before reaching Shah Alam where you can take photos of the impressive ‘Blue Mosque”. Visit the Thean Hou Buddhist Temple, a six-tiered temple regarded as one of the biggest Chinese temples in South East Asia, the 421 meter high concrete KL Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world and Suria KLCC Shopping Centre, an international modern shopping and entertainment centre noted for its convenience, accessibility and maximum visibility.
• Shopping And Independent Activities @ S$25 (USD18.05) per adult to any of the shopping centres in Malaysia KL city such as KL Chinatown, Midvalley Megamall, 1 Utama or Bukit Bintang area.
• Shopping And Independent Activities @ S$23 (USD16.60) per adult to Aeon Bukit Tinggi in the hub of southern Klang.

We did not book any of the tours provided by the cruise ship as we preferred going on our own and not having a restricted time to enjoy our shopping in Malaysia.

At approximately 1415 hrs, we made our way to The Lido and disembarked from there to the Star Cruise Terminal. At the Star Cruise Terminal in Port Klang, we saw SuperStar Libra berthed there as well.

We then split into 3 groups and took 3 cabs to Aeon Bukit Tinggi in Klang, approximately 20 minutes away, instead of going all the way into KL city which would be approximately an hour’s journey.

TIPS FOR TRAVEL-

1. Each cab can take up to 4 passengers and costs RM45 (USD13.35) from the Star Cruises Terminal to Aeon Bukit Tinggi in Klang. The journey to and fro cost us RM90 (USD26.70) per cab x 3 cabs = RM270 (USD 80.15) for the 9 of us. If we had booked the shore excursion with the cruise ship, it would have cost us S$23 (USD16.60) per person and a total of S$207 (USD149.65). Note the price difference.

TIPS FOR TRAVEL-

2. If we had booked with the cruise ship, the assembly time for shopping at Aeon Bukit Tinggi was 1400 hrs to leave the Star Cruise Terminal.However, the pick up time for the returning buses would be at 1730 hrs which means that you had only about three hours to shop.Since we went on our own, we arranged with the cab drivers to pick us up at 1900 hrs, thus we had four hours to shop and eat to our heart’s content.

We had a smooth journey to Aeon Bukit Tinggi, a fairly new shopping mall that is located in the vibrant and modern township of Bandar Bukit Tinggi, the hub of southern Klang. Over here, you can find a delightful array of world-renowned labels, lots of sumptuous food outlets and much more all under one big roof! A family-oriented area, the Aeon Bukit Tinggi Shopping centre has a gross lettable area of one million square feet, making it one of the largest shopping malls in Malaysia.

Most of our shopping was done in Jusco, the anchor tenant in Aeon. We also stopped by the Liang Bao Tea House in front of Jusco and purchased some tea and tid bits. The deep fried sweet potato at Taiwan Snack Street next door was something interesting and a must try snack. A little like French fries but made with sweet potatoes instead.

Next, as we passed by one of the kiosks, we saw a huge crowd. Upon further investigation, we discovered that the kiosk was selling some Malaysian snacks. The crowd at the kiosk seemed to be never ending. Some of our group members were attracted by the crowd ad bought quite a number of food products from the kiosk, Cheong Hoong.

"Cheong Hoong" has been a local brand since Malaysia independence in 1957, representing Chinese middle-aged entrepreneurship in that era. Cheong Hoong's products are derived from the heritage of multiracial culture and harmonious bonding, as well as a synergy of old and new savour of all time. In essence Cheong Hoong reflects traditional roots and unchanging flavours with more than 60 delicious native products which have been creatively blended by multiracial communities’ traditional delicacies.

As some of our group members had shopped and bought quite a bit of items, they bought some sports bags to place their items in.

We decided to have an early dinner at Lever 2 Arena Restaurant which seemed to be more like a food court. The Cantonese cooked food at Stall no. 2 was quite good and cost approximately RM5 (USD1.50) – RM5.50 (USD1.65) a plate on average.

We had arranged for the cabs to pick us up at 1900 hrs, in good time for the 2100 hrs that we needed to be back on board the Malaysia cruise ship. The taxi drivers were early and so were we. Thus we managed to leave Aeon at 1845 hrs and reached the Star Cruise Terminal soon after 1900 hrs. Upon re-boarding the Star Cruise line, we returned back to our cabins with our bags of shopping goodies.

At 2315 hrs, we thought of having some supper before going to bed. Upon reaching the Mediterranean Buffet Restaurant, we found it to be totally empty, ie. No people and no food. We then realized that supper was only from 12 midnight to 0100 hrs. As we were too tired to wait for supper, we went to bed soon after.

Thus ended Day 2 on our Malaysia cruise on board the holiday cruise ship SuperStar Virgo, with stopover in Port Klang where we managed to do some true Malaysia shopping and experienced the superb food of Malaysia. A very productive day today as we had also managed to check out the wushu tai chi instruction, line dance and table napkin folding demonstrations in the morning after breakfast.
