Malacca Vacation 21st – 22nd Aug 2010 Day 2

Hotel Puri's Garden

The morning started off on a lazy note as we had a late breakfast at Heliconia Garden in our Malacca accommodation, Hotel Puri. The Heliconia garden was set in a lush tropical setting making the breakfast a relaxing experience and a truly memorable Malacca vacation.

After breakfast, we took a short walk in Jonker Street before checking out of Hotel Puri. This has been a great experience in Hotel Puri and we are very fortunate to have found this gem of a hotel in the centre of town.

We managed to take a look at Puri Suite, a room especially for couples. This room comes with a Jacuzzi and a living room.

Next we went to Jonker Street to have lunch. Jonker 88 had a long queue so we went next door to Jonker 86.

Enjoying a meal of assam laksa (noodles in tangy fish gravy), nasi lemak (coconut rice) and dumpling noodles with Edwin, we ended the meal with mango chendol, durian chendol and chempedak (a fruit resembling jackfruit which some people say is the next stinkiest fruit after durian) chendol.

Great tasting Malaysian products can be found here as well

Edwin then brought us to Baba Charlie’s kitchen where we could lay our eyes on those mouth watering Nonya cakes and take our pick of the freshly made cakes including but not limited to apam berkuah, kochee, pulot tekan, ang ku kuih and pulut tegal.

Baba Charlie is located at 72 Jalan Tengkera, Pantai 2, 75299 Melaka.

On the way back, Edwin stopped along the way to let us try some nonya desserts.

Next we went back to Hotel Puri’s car park where we parted with Edwin and proceeded to Bee Bee in Jalan Parameswara to buy the delicious nonya pineapple tarts. We had just purchased some last month at RM12 (USD3.89) each. However, the price had now increased to RM13 (USD4.21).

After making our purchases at Bee Bee, we continued to Tesco to do some shopping before making a stop at D’Village Resort near Ayer Keroh to check out the area for a future event.

By the time we started our journey home to Singapore, it was already 1755 hrs. Our dinner comprised the pineapple tarts as well as Baba Charlie’s nonya cakes.

It was a smooth journey all the way on the North South Highway and we made good time in going through the Second Link slightly after 2000 hrs as there was no queue.

All in all, it was a wonderful Malacca vacation with pure relaxation in the Puri Spa as well as the great food!
