Malaysia Vacation – Cherating and Rompin Beach Resort Day 6

As we needed to head back to Singapore today, this officially ends our Malaysia vacation. We had a great week holidaying in Malaysia and enjoying the Malaysia beach resort, especially the one in Cherating, The Legend Resort.

Starting with an early breakfast at 0730 hrs, we had a not-too-heavy breakfast from the buffet counter at Summerset Resort Rompin. Comprising breakfast food of basically Malaysian variety, you could get nasi lemak (coconut rice, also known as the national dish of Malaysia), ayam rendang (chicken in coconut milk), plain porridge with condiments as well as baked beans and sausages.

Upon meeting up with Masitah from the Food & Beverage department, she mentioned that the Royal of Pahang’s entourage of 20 had their breakfast specially prepared at 0500 hrs.

After breakfast, we returned to our room to make an international call to the facilitator of The Opening, an awakening enlightenment program that would be happening next month, as we needed to discuss certain issues before we met up with the resort staff to obtain the contract.

By the time we left this beach resort accommodation, it was almost 1030 hrs, an hour and a half later than we had planned. Fortunately for us, the drive back to Singapore along Highway 3 was a smooth journey except for certain slow moving vehicles.

Stopping by Mersing, we managed to locate the keropok (crackers) factory at 37 Jalan Abdullah 87800, Mersing. We had been here once before by following some friends and was hoping to be able to find the place again.

After shopping and purchasing the keropok, we followed directions from our Garmin global positioning system to Restoran Hai Sing for lunch. The outlet looked more like a coffee shop than a restaurant.

We ordered the fishball kway teow (rice noodles) soup and the kong bak (braised pork) noodles. Accompanied with pork lard, the fish balls were smooth, bouncy and great tasting as were all the other dishes. Total cost for lunch came up to RM35 (USD10.65) inclusive of 5 glasses of herbal tea.

Continuing on our journey back to Singapore, we stopped at a petrol station along the way to top up before reaching the Woodlands checkpoint at 1450 hrs. it was a breeze getting through the Malaysian custom and immigration as the counters were clear and there was no queue. However on the Singapore end, we took approximately 20 minutes to clear both customs and immigration.

Six days have passed since we started on our Chinese New Year Malaysia vacation. This was our first visit to Cherating beach resort and we enjoyed the various Malaysian food that we managed to try which were indigenous to the East Coast of Malaysia. At the same time, we also managed to settle some logistical issues for The Opening, an awakening enlightenment program we are helping out with next month. Overall it had been a beautiful and wonderful week lazing around at the laid-back Malaysia beach resort.

Since we had already met the staff from the portable toilet company for our awakening enlightenment meditation retreat yesterday, this left us with some free time this morning as we did not need to rush and could enjoy some of the facilities of this colonial style Malaysia beach resort that we had been staying for the past two nights. We even saw some games for team building going on along the beach and caught some fisherman images from our villa. We managed to get some great sunrise images as well as ocean images. On the way back, we also captured a few full moon images.

This morning saw us taking a walk along the beautiful beach in this part of Malaysia where you could see the vast South China Sea. We were told by Mr Selva that dolphins have been spotted by guests before but we were not privileged to have that honour this time around. Here we managed to capture some great images of the ocean as well as the sunrise.

Along the beach, you could see activities such as volleyball and team building games happening. Families strolling along the beach as well as fishermen were a common sight. The hotel’s swimming pool was also well patronized on this lovely Sunday morning.

The heat from the sun was becoming unbearable, this being the hottest season of the year

We proceeded to the Reception area to check out at 1145 hrs and as Mr Selva was busy with a guest, we waited for him in The Dining Room. When he came, we ordered the fish curry and chicken with dried chilli that we had yesterday. As these were special orders, we had to wait approximately twenty minutes for our lunch.

As tomorrow was hubby’s birthday, we also ordered the ice cream cake. Since we did not give any advance notice, the chef was kind enough to accede to our request and came up with a ‘special’ birthday cake at the last minute. Great job!

It was a wonderful and enjoyable birthday celebration and we were happy that we were dealing with Mr Sleva and Mr Gopal, the GM whose motto is that the guest always comes first.

We did a room inspection after lunch where we saw a normal Hollywood twin bedded room as well as a junior suite. Beautiful and spacious, the junior suite is great for a honeymoon couple or even a family.

We finally started on our journey home at 1445 hrs. It was sad to leave but we know that we will be back soon to do a food tasting before our awakening enlightenment meditation event to be held in November 2009.

On the way back to Singapore, we were caught in slow moving traffic for almost an hour. By the time we arrived in Tesco, Masai, Malaysia, it was already 1830hrs. We spent some time shopping before leaving at 2045 hrs. We headed for dinner at Moon Café.

However as we had keyed in the wrong branch of Moon Café into the GPS and we missed a turning, we decided to go straight back to Singapore to have dinner instead.

By the time we reached the exit to Woodlands causeway, there was such a long queue of cars, the longest we have seen, so we decided to detour and get into Singapore via Tuas the 2nd Link. It was already 2015 hrs when we hit the 2nd Link and it took us almost an hour to get past both sides of the checkpoint and immigration.

We finally reached Singapore at 2315 hrs and as it was already so late, we decided to skip dinner since we were not that hungry. By the time we dropped our friends off at their doorstep, it was already 2330 hrs.

Even though we did not have dinner and had a tough time getting back into Singapore due to the school holidays, it was still a great and memorable trip. We had a most productive time at the Malaysia beach resort and Summerset Resort would be an ideal place to hold the awakening enlightenment meditation retreat. We are all looking forward to the very first of such retreat in Asia. At the same time, we had a great time snapping away and capturing the images of the ocean, the sunrise, the full moon as well as the fisherman. Interesting!
