Malaysia Kuala Lumpur And Malacca 25/8 – 29/8/2010 Day 2

Waking up about 2100 hrs, we had breakfast on the go whilst making our way to Desa Park City for an appointment with Naz and Jasmine, the franchisees of Kizsports.

As this is a pretty new development, we could not locate the address on the Garmin Global Positioning System and got lost somewhere along the way. Calling Naz, we met her at the nearby Tesco Kepong and she led the way to the destination.

Lasting slightly over an hour, the meeting finally ended about 1200 hrs. We then drove to the nearby Kepong Village where the first thing we did was to fill our stomachs.

Making our way to Medan Selera, we decided to order the Indian food which turned out to be quite delicious, especially the mutton bryiani (yellow rice) which was very fragrant and with a nice aroma, though the price was a bit steep for a food court.

The August special of rice and tandoori chicken was quite good too though the chappati was a little tough.

Shopping was next on the list at Tesco before we passed by Bean Garden and decided to buy some ‘kaya balls’ snacks. Freshly made, they cost RM2.80 for 10 pieces and were great tasting and delicious when eaten piping hot.

After the Tesco shopping, we made our way to AA Pharmacy in Sri Petaling to purchase some medication before returning to our Malaysia accommodation, Blessings Homestay in Bangsar Park. With a short break, we were totally refreshed and proceeded to Eco-Oasis, an organic café in Jalan Riong, 1 km away from Blessings Homestay.

At Eco-Oasis, we had an organic meal, met up with another ten friends and had a great time networking as well as conducting the Get Real evening. Facilitating the Get Real evening, we basically showed people how to live in their truth and gain more clarity in their lives.

It was a productive evening and we ended at 2230 hrs. After packing up our stuff, we went to Jalan 222, also known as Jalan Templer, where the famous black Hokkien mee is located. We had our supper consisting of the all-popular black Hokkien mee before eagerly returning to our Malaysia accommodation for the night, Blessings Homestay.

Here at Blessings, we met Mun, the owner of this cozy Homestay and managed to chat with her on the disappearing foods of Malaysia as well as antiques that could be found sprawled around Blessings Homestay.

Malaysia Shopping Trip 6 Mar - 7 Mar 2010 Day 2

We woke up to a beautiful Sunday morning and proceeded to Café Citrus for breakfast. Surprisingly this time, the cafe was not as crowded as during our previous stay. At RM130 (USD40.75) for our room including two buffet breakfast, this is great value for money at this Kuala Lumpur accommodation, Hotel Citrus.

With a good variety of breakfast food, we thoroughly enjoyed our first meal of the day. Fortunately we managed to try the croissants and Danish pastry fresh from the oven. These were truly a delight!

After a leisurely breakfast at Café Citrus, we went back to the room and completed our packing. Check out time is at 1200 hrs and after checking out, we made our way to Medan Pasar. However we got caught in slow traffic, which is unusual on a Sunday. We realized that some of the roads were closed thus causing the jam. As such we decided to make our way to Malacca to continue with some last minute shopping in Malaysia before heading home.

On our way to Malacca, we stopped by at one of the many Rest & Relaxation stops to take a break. Here we were greeted by colourful fruits.

Exiting at the Ayer Keroh exit, we arrived in the Plaza Pandan area of Malacca at approximately 1500 hrs. Again, without our most trusted Garmin global positioning system, we would not have been able to find the place. As we were in this area for the first time, we explored the area and went shopping in EconSave, one of the largest homegrown retailers in Malaysia.

When we finished our shopping in EconSave, we made our way to Dataran Pahlawan Megamall. However the car parks were full and since we did not want to waste time hunting for a parking lot, we headed towards Tesco Malacca. On the way to Tesco, we came across Aeon Jusco located just next to Tesco Peringgit.

Having recently opened only last month, we decided to check it out. The car park was full but we were fortunate to find a parking lot without too much hassle! This is reported to be the largest AEON Jusco outlet in Malaysia.

Huge and modern, there were tons of shoppers in AEON Jusco. With a number of specialty shops spread over 3 levels, this makes an interesting shopping experience. We managed to get some shopping done and bought some donuts from J Co to bring home. Either J Co’s business was extremely good or the staff just could not cope with the speed at which the donuts had to be replenished. Thus, we ended up waiting almost ten minutes for the donuts.

Next stop was Tesco, our original destination, for more last minute shopping. Before we started with our shopping here, we went to Medan Selera food court to fill our stomachs. The rice and cooked food from stall no. 4 was not too bad. The chilli was especially spicy and tasted great. The Thai mee bandung at RM5.50 (USD1.75) from stall no. 14 was a letdown. The ABC Special at RM3 (USD0.95) from Stall no. 15 made a sweet and cold dessert.

After dinner, we went to Tesco and shopped till we had whatever we were looking for. We left Tesco and headed back to Singapore around 2000 hrs.

The drive from Malacca to Singapore was a smooth drive and we managed to top up our petrol at Gelang Patah before we hit the Tuas Checkpoint just before 2300 hrs.

As there was no queue, we managed to clear both the Singapore and Malaysia end of the customs and immigration in fifteen minutes. This turned out to be a successful Malaysia shopping trip. As usual, we enjoyed the delicious tasting Malaysian food and look forward to trying more such dishes.

Malaysia Shopping – Malacca & KL Day 2

Being a lazy Sunday morning we started the second day of our Malaysia shopping trip by waking up when we were ready.

Breakfast saw us in Café Citrus at 0930 hrs. The area was quite crowded and the food a little slot in being replenished with the hordes of hungry diners around. The quality of the breakfast was not too bad though we did not manage to try certain food items as they were not either available or there was a long queue.

After breakfast, we went to Level 2 to check out the outdoor swimming pool. It was a nice area to relax although there were not many people around at 1015 hrs in the morning. The gymnasium was just next to the pool and you could work out whilst having a clear view of the pool.

At 1115 hrs, we met up with Assistant Sales Manager Selva along the main road, Jalan Raja Laut. As we were very new to this area, he brought us around the area and told us that this is basically a wholesale area. There were many shops selling handbags, timepieces, toys and clothes. GM Plaza is also a wholesale centre where you can find eight floors of items including costume jewelry and accessories, sunglasses, bags and clothes.

Chow Kit Bazaar

It was an interesting morning walk in the Chow Kit area of Kuala Lumpur. We also did some shopping in Mydin, a local wholesale emporium. As we walked around the area, Selva explained to us that the Chow Kit area used to be the red light district of Kuala Lumpur once upon a time. However, the government has made an effort to clean up the area though you can still spot some activities still in existence.

We ended our morning tour with a drink in a coffee shop close by. Thanks to Selva, we managed to get our check out time for Hotel Citrus extended to 1400 hrs.

When we went back to our Kuala Lumpur accommodation, Hotel Citrus, we proceeded to the Club Lounge on the 10th floor to have some complimentary snacks before checking out.

After leaving the hotel at 1400 hrs, we ran some errands before dropping by our friends café, Kafe Passion, in Bandar Mahkota Cheras to pass them a red packet for their son’s wedding next Saturday as we would not be able to make it for the wedding dinner.

After leaving our friends’ café, we went to Sungei Long to look for something. There we came across a coffee shop selling delightful Malaysian food from Penang, another state in Malaysia on the northwest coast. We ordered the Char Kway Teow (fried rice noodles) and Prawn Noodle Soup. Great choices! Both were very tasty and well worth the RM4 (USD1.20) and RM3.80 (USD1.10) respectively.

Next stop was more Tesco shopping. This time, we went to Tesco Kajang which was not too far from Sungei Long where we managed to do some last minute shopping.

If you are ever in Tesco shopping, check the in-store Tesco promotional flyer to see what items are on offer. We realized that most of the promotional prices that we found in the flyer were not reflected at the display area.

1910 hrs saw us starting our journey back to Singapore after a full day of shopping in Malaysia. This trip was indeed a fully packed Malaysia shopping trip, having shopped in Malacca as well as Kuala Lumpur in the two days. Fortunately for us, we have our vehicle where we could dump our shopping goodies in and not have to worry about whether our suitcase is large enough to accommodate all our purchases. We managed to get quite a lot of our shopping list done and enjoyed ourselves at the same time catching up with our Malaysian friends and trying out the delicious Malaysian food.
