HongKong Lantau Island - Ngong Ping 360 Village - Po Lin Monastery

 

Po Lin Monastery, also known as Precious Lotus Monastery is a Buddhist monastery on Lantau Isand, Hong Kong.  Built in 1906 by three Buddhist monks,  Po Lin Monastery was originaly known as "The Big Hut" (大茅蓬 Tai Mao Pung). It was renamed to its present name in 1924.

Here is the new Pai Lau in traditional Northern architectural style that is constructed about 150 metres away at the entrance to piazza near Ngong Ping 360 Village.

 The main temple houses three bronze statues of the Buddha – representing his past, present and future lives – as well as many Buddhist scriptures.

 Tian Tan  Buddha, also known as the giant Buddha, Hong Kong, statue completed in 1993, is an extension of the monastery and is located close by.
