Heidelberg Bridge Monkey

After dinner at the Heidelberg China Restaurant Asia, we took a short walk in the cold winter night and passed by the Heidelberg Castle in Germany.

Moving on, we passed by what is known as the Heidelberg Bridge Monkey.  This bronze sculpture is famous in the sense that tourists will stick their heads inside the monkey's mask to take a picture with it as in the pictures below.

A very touristy thing to do

Sticking your head under the monkey's mask and snapping a picture

Heidelberg Bridge Monkey

Note the sly smile on the  monkey's face...  and the mirror the it holds in its left hand.

The plaque next to the statue reads:
"Why are you looking at me? Haven't you seen the monkey in Heidelberg? Look around and you will probably see, more monkeys like me."

Not totally sure what it is supposed to mean...  though one of the interpretation is as follows:-
"As you look at me, world (or traveller), don't laugh too quickly at me - because if you were to look at humanity or even into a mirror, you might just see something equally funny."
