Castle Marne Denver (1)

Castle Marne Denver, b&b castle

Castle Marne Denver, a beautiful Denver accommodation which we had the chance to experience, is much more than a Denver suite hotel to us. Known as a B&B castle or a historic bed breakfast accommodation, our stay here was a wonderful and memorable experience, as many who have enjoyed their honeymoon holidays here can attest to. We had not expected our Denver holidays to be so fun and exciting.

Castle Marne

Castle Marne is located in inner city Denver. Now known as Denver’s grandest historic mansion, it was designed in 1889 by one of Denver’s most famous architect, William Lang. Castle Marne has the stone structure of a castle although it was not designated as a castle. Originally built as a show home, it has been changed into a beautifully styled Victorian bed and breakfast (b&b castle) today. The Peiker family, present owners of Castle Marne, has faithfully replicated the interior from period photographs and reestablished its grandeur.

With a four-storey tower, Castle Marne is of the Richardson-Romanesque style with massive stone walls and comes with an imposing foyer with its own ornately carved fireplace. You will find a round beveled mirror which is flat at the bottom, the signature of a Lang structure, above the mantel.

The foyer

Slightly above the grand oak staircase, you will be greeted by a stunning ‘peacock’ window of both stained and beveled glass, approximately six feet in diameter, lighting up the landing. This too has the signature flat bottomed circle.

The parlour, to the right of the entrance, has also been restored to its original splendour. Here, the Peikers have done their best to replicate the furnishings of the period. You can even find a stereopticon on the coffee table and the dozens of old photos for the viewer.

Lovely antiques to give the Victorian charm

In a little cozy corner of the parlour, the current jigsaw puzzle corner, weddings are registered in this charming Victorian atmosphere. The baby grand piano offers music for the ear during gatherings and special functions.

Going straight in from the entrance is the beautiful dining room which is papered with the original wallcovering from England. Over here you will find the single largest piece of such wallcovering left in this world and is protected under the National & Local Historic Registers. The dining room is also painstakingly decorated with hand painted flowers on the ceiling.

In this castle accommodation, there are a total of nine guestrooms. If you are looking to experience a Denver suite hotel, do try out the Presidential Suite as well as the John Mason Suite. You will be more pampered than you could ever be in any Denver suite hotel and you will be served with a truly delicious home made full gourmet breakfast every morning. We especially loved the breakfast that the Peikers lovingly prepared for us, especially their yummilicious muffins.

Breakfast is a full gourmet breakfast and we thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful breakfast served during the two days we were there.

The two elegant suite rooms come with their own private spa. The Presidential Suite, a three room suite lovingly reproduced much as it was 107 years ago, surrounds you with the warmth and grace of a bygone era such as the king-size brass tester bed, gentleman's "Hat Box" dresser, armoire, other period furnishings and original fireplace. Seen through lace covered French Doors, the Solarium invites you to enjoy the modern jetted whirlpool tub for two or just a private bath with shower. The loveseat in the tower sitting room offers the perfect atmosphere for a romantic interlude.

As the sun sets, your enjoyment begins with the relaxation and beauty of the grandest room in the house.

With Palladian windows, Queen-size brass bed, highboy dresser and cathedral ceilings, the Southern exposure offer a gracious, sun-flooded room. This was indeed one of the most memorable holidays that we have ever experienced, especially with the B&B castle accommodation.
