Our Kuala Lumpur vacation today started off at a slow and leisurely pace. Breakfast food of a wide variety was provided at our Kuala Lumpur accommodation Federal Hotel KL. We also managed to try the Malaysian dim sum food in the hotel and saw various Chinese wood carving before driving back to Singapore.
Federal Hotel KL
There are numerous Kuala Lumpur accommodation, with something to suit everyone’s budget. For cheap hotel, Kuala Lumpur offers the 2 or 3 star accommodation such as Capitol, Nova and Swiss Inn. If you have some budget, you can choose the mid range Kuala Lumpur accommodation such as Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Ancasa Hotel and Corus Hotel. Or if you do not have to worry about money, then go for the 5 star Kuala Lumpur accommodation such as Hilton, Sheraton Imperial and Westin Hotel which should be able to pamper you. In fact, you can get some of the 5 star hotels at 4 star prices and vice versa.
Breakfast was served from 0700 – 1000 hrs. There was a buffet spread of breakfast food of a wide variety to suit your palette. You could choose from local delights such as nasi lemak (coconut rice) and fried noodles to Western based sausages, oatmeal and eggs. There was even a noodle section where the chef would prepare your noodle soup for you on the spot and you could also choose from a range of cut-fruits. You also had a choice of cakes and pastries for ‘breakfast dessert’.

Fruit sectionWe checked out at about 1130 hrs before proceeding for lunch. We decided to try the weekend brunch served from 1030 hrs to 1500 hrs on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays at Mandarin Palace located on the second floor of the Federal Hotel KL. For an unlimited dim sum (traditional Chinese cuisine involving a variety of small dishes), porridge, noodle, vegetables and dessert, you pay only RM25++ (USD7.15) per adult or RM20++ (USD5.70) per child or senior citizen. We had to wait for a table as they did not have any small tables left for guests wanting the dim sum buffet.
At the entrance to Mandarin Palace, you can see various Chinese wood carving decorating the area as you walk into the restaurant.

You can eat to your heart’s content and choose from the range of dishes that they have. For porridge and noodles, place your order direct with the staff. For steamed dim sum food, wait for the dim sum cart to come your way and choose what you want. For fried dim sum food and an assortment of Teochew meat, help yourself to the dishes at the buffet counter. Vegetables and hot desserts such as sweet potato, white fungus with sea coconut and green beans are also available at the buffet counter. Check out the dim sum pictures below. The food was of a good quality and standard befitting of its status in a hotel.

After lunch, we walked over to Plaza Low Yat car park where we had parked the car. We then proceeded to the Basement to exchange our parking coupon with the car park cashier as Federal Hotel KL had authorized the payment of the car park charges.
Before leaving, we managed to purchase some freshly made doughnuts. 12 pieces in one box cost RM23 (USD 6.60). They were very fresh and came with various kinds of toppings for you to choose from.
We then stopped by at Jusco Cheras to do some grocery shopping before proceeding on the North South Highway at 1525 hrs. Stopped at Ayer Keroh Rest & Relaxation area at 1645 hrs for a short twenty-five minutes break and enjoyed an ice-cold root beer at A&W. Traffic was smooth flowing all the way.

Covered in cloudsGoing into Singapore by Woodlands Causeway can save you slightly more than S$10 (USD6.90) in terms of toll charges and payments. However, Woodlands Causeway can get pretty heavy traffic at certain peak periods. We managed to get through the Malaysian end of the Causeway without any hiccups and it was a breeze getting through. However it took us approximately 30 minutes to clear the Singapore end and it was finally home sweet home at 2030 hrs.
In our various holidays to Malaysia, this must be one with quite a bit of adventure as we found new eating place at Kulai and new shopping place San Shu Gong in Malacca. This was also our first time staying in Federal Hotel KL, a 4 star Kuala Lumpur accommodation in the heart of the shopping district as well as tried the Malaysian dim sum food. This was indeed a most adventurous Malaysia trip.
